Tiikm Executive Imparts Insights On Presenting And Publishing Women’s Studies

By Gender and Development Center

Conducting research about women and gender is part of the mainstreaming strategies of the Bulacan State University Gender and Development Center. To encourage more faculty members to do research, particularly on women, the Center prepared a seminar that aims to provide them with inspiration and insights on designing a study worth sharing with others locally or internationally. Additionally, it also intends to teach the participants the rudiments of publishing the research.

The seminar themed "Paving the Way for Women Studies to International Presentation and Publication" took place on June 9, 2023. Mr. Isanka P. Gamage, Co-Founder and Managing Director of The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), provided not just basic information about research presentation and publication but also the significance of women's studies to global development.

The said gathering was graced by university officials such as Dr. Mary Ann P. Carranza, Executive Director for External Relations and Internationalization, who gave very encouraging opening remarks. Dr. Allen N. Maroma, the Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension, greeted the participants with a special message where he emphasized the importance of research publication. Adding more meaning to the occasion was a very motivating missive from the Executive Vice President, Dr. Teody C. San Andres. In his message, he pointed out the significance of integrating topics on women and gender in the curriculum and, likewise, the necessity of conducting research about gender and development. Ms. Joana Mae C. Nepomuceno, Director of the Extension Services Office, delivers the closing remarks, which left the participants more motivated to do research.

Each college and campus was represented by its respective college research and GAD coordinators, with additional faculty members totaling half of the participants. The other half were principals and teachers sent by the GAD Kaeskwela Partners Schools, namely the City Schools Divisions of Malolos and San Jose del Monte, the Districts of Bulakan, Hanogoy East, Hagonoy West, and Plaridel. There were also students from the Graduate School at BulSU.

Prior to the seminar, a meeting aiming for collaboration between BulSU and TIIKM was held at the 5th Floor Conference Room, attended by university officials: EVP Dr. Teody C. San Andres, VPRDE Dr. Allen N. Maroma, ED-ERI Dr. Mary Ann P. Carranza, Community Affairs Head Dr. Victoria P. Valenzuela, Graduate School FAU President Dr. Jovita E. Villanueva, and the GAD Focal Person Dr. Remigio R. Musca. Mr. Isanka P. Gamage is the co-founder and managing director, along with Mr. Austin Joseph, assistant general manager and head of international relations for TIIKM.

Summing up, the activity was able to achieve its objective of imparting knowledge and insights through the production of presentable and publishable research, with an add-on for possible collaborative projects between the university and TIIKM.
