Incidentally the celebration also coincided with the Institution’s 25th anniversary as a University by virtue of Republic Act 7665. From its original incarnation as a secondary school run by the Americans in 1904, BulSU became Bulacan Trade School in 1909, Bulacan National Trade School in 1953, Bulacan College of Arts and Trades in 1957, and was finally converted to Bulacan State University in 1993.
Administrators, faculty members, non-academic personnel, and the students all participated in the festive occasion starting off with a float parade traversing from the Bulacan Convention Center to the University grounds. The opening program, held at the BulSU Valencia Hall, highlighted the unveiling of the 25 aspirations that the University aims to accomplish in the following years to come which is in line with the University’s vision to become a progressive knowledge-generating institution, globally recognized for excellent instruction, pioneering research, and responsive community engagements. Each of the aspirations pinpointed key areas that the University seeks to further develop in order to provide quality education and expand the productive capacity of citizenry. These aspirations include:
Numerous guests from the government sector, including Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado, Vice Governor Daniel Fernado, Congressman Jonathan Sy-Alvarado, and Malolos City Mayor Christian Natividad gaced the event to express their appreciation and well wishes for the University’s longevity. Also, a surprise award was given to the University President Dr. Cecilia S. Navasero Gascon by the Provincial Government in the form of granting her the status of “Adopted Daughter of Bulacan” in recognition of her efforts and dedication to the development of BulSU and its constituents. The program concluded with the dedication of the CICT and CON building to the late Dr. Rosario Pimentel, the first University President of Bulacan State University.
