Of Education and the Mining Industry: One World, One Goal

By University Communications Group

The role of education in changing the way society thinks and works is universal. This was proven again on September 28, 2018 by the Bulacan State University (BulSU) President Dr. Cecilia S. Navasero-Gascon as she addressed more than a hundred members of the mining industry from across the nation in the 5th National Summit of Small-Scale Gold Mining Communities hosted by BAN Toxics at the Sulo Riviera Hotel in Quezon City. Dr. Gascon was invited to be one of the sharers on The Critical Role of Education Towards Sustainable Environment (in the mining community) during the Moving Forward activity of the forum. In her speech, the University President highlighted University Programs like BulSU SEEK (Sentro ng Edukasyon, Ekonomiya, at Kalikasan) and notable researches from the College of Science that helped in establishing innovations and new knowledge that were able to instill significant environmental impact in the region.

Towards the end of her speech, Dr. Gascon urged the mining industry members to form partnerships with the academe in order to develop safer and more efficient mining practices that would help preserve the environment while still enabling people to practice their means of living.
