Continuing the Legacy of Empowered Women

By University Communications Group

The 22nd of February commemorates the day that national hero Dr. Jose Rizal sent a letter to the brave young women of Malolos, applauding them for their unwavering sprit in the fight for the right for education in order to become contributors to society. One hundred twenty-nine (129) years later, this same spirit is alive and well at Bulacan State University (BulSU).

On February 22, 2018, three units from BulSU collaborated to organize a very fruitful event for the commemoration ceremony for the women of Malolos. The Community Affairs Office, the Gender and Development Center, and the Kababaihan ni Rizal sa Malolos (KARIZMA) prepared a short program at the Rizal Park in the University at 7:00 am which saw University President Dr. Cecilia N. Gascon and Vice President for Research, Training, and Extension Dr. Cecilia A. Geronimo offer flowers to the Rizal monument located at the school premise. Guest speaker Ms. Myrna Franco from the Touch with Faith Massage Services shared her life story on how she overcame the odds and became a contributing member of society despite her blindness.

After the event was concluded, members of the BulSU community were able to take advantage of the massage services provided by Miss Franco and company at the Alumni Building from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
