BulSU launches DOST funded Food Innovation Center

Bulacan State University together with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) formally launched the University Food Innovation Center (FIC) last December 15, 2017 at the Carpio Hall Grounds.

The event was graced by DOST Assistant Secretary for Administration Dr. Teodoro M. Gatchalian, Assistant Secretary for Finance and Legal Affairs Atty. Emmanuel S. Galvez, DOST Region 3 Director Dr. Julius Ceazar V. Sicat and Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Bulacan Chapter President Atty. Anselmo C. Samonte.

University officials, headed by University President Dr. Cecilia N. Gascon together with VP for Executive Operations Dr. Teody San Andres and VP for Research, Extension and Training Dr. Cecilia A. Geronimo were present in support of the activity.

University Research Office (URO) Director Maria Jenina A. Tongol, who heads the FIC team said that the URO will strive to be relevant and will provide the platform from which entrepreneurs can launch their businesses.

“The FIC ideal is technology incubation, which would allow businesses to build their empire from the ground up.” She added.

The program was followed by a ceremonial ribbon cutting, product launching and equipment demonstration. Among the products launched were Spanish-Style Scad, Spiced Dried Herring and Vacuum Fried Potato Chips flavoured with All-natural Spice Blends.

The sole FIC in Region 3 was granted to the university thru the DOST High Impact Technology Solutions (DOST-HITS) Roll-Out Project. The project aims to provide specific equipment to the FIC to address the food processing needs of the industries in the regions.
