Historical Background of the Office of Alumni Affairs

The Alumni Association was organized in the early ‘70’s with responsibility of strengthening the coordination and building stronger relationship between the University and alumni. In 1984, imbued by the desire to invigorate the alumni association, Dr. Rosario Pimentel of the then Bulacan College of Arts and Trades, created a steering committee composed of selected faculty members to work on his mission. This committee headed by Mr. Rolando Gaspar succeeded in gathering dynamic and benevolent alumni to spearhead the leadership. Thus the emergence of the Alumni Triumvirate in the persons of the late Engr. Primo P. Alcantara, Mr. Gerardo Benedictos and Engr. Restituto C. Roque. Together they made the association a truly dynamic body in the service of the alumni and the institution.

The Alumni Board of Directors was elected in May 1984 with Engr. Primo Alcantara as president, Mr. Gerardo Benedictos and Engr. Restituto Roque as vice presidents for education and industry respectively. Dr. Pimentel created the Office for Alumni Relations with Mr. Rolando Gaspar as its first coordinator. Mr. Gaspar’s term likewise ended in 1987 and succeeded by Mrs. Erlinda Dungo Lalic who served as coordinator from 1987 to 2004. The office was later renamed as Office of Alumni Affairs. When Mrs. Lalic retired, Mrs. Evangelina E. Reyes was appointed director for the term 2004-2006.

Dr. Evelina E. Exconde was designated director from 2006-2007. She was followed by Mrs. Emelita B. Crisostomo who was appointed as director in 2007 and who served until the end of 2008. The office is presently under the Directorship of Prof. Ma. Theresa F. Reyes.

The Office of Alumni Affairs is housed in the alumni hall which was built in 1987, with Mr. Gerardo Benedictos as president of the then BCAT Alumni Association, Inc.

The Alumni Affairs Office focuses its activities in pursuing active alumni participation and aggressively mobilizing resources and support with the University. The office works in collaboration and coordination with the alumni association in its projects and undertakings such as the construction of the Heroes Park and the Rizal Park, scholarship program and uplifting the present physical condition of the different campuses and colleges through donations and pledges.
