Bar results: BulSU claims Top 10; 8 other new lawyers

The Philippine Bar examination, usually led by familiar school names like Ateneo de Manila, University of the Philippines, San Beda College and University of the East now welcomes a new name.

By College of Law

For the first time in Philippine Bar history, Bulacan State University (BulSU) makes it to the Top Ten of the Bar examination through Ronel Buenaventura, who finished as the 10th placer with an 85.75 percent rating.

The university's 14 year-old College of Law welcomed the biggest news to ever hit the college as Atty. Nenita Dela Cruz - Tuazon, LLM., Dean of College of Law, relayed to Dr. Cecilia N. Gascon, University President, the name of the nine students who passed the November 8, 15, 22, 29 Bar Examinations.

The 9 passers from Bulacan State University are the following:

  1. Atty. Ronel U. Buenaventura (Ranked number 10)
  2. Atty. Romeo B. Cruz, Jr.
  3. Atty. Bernard Jonathan L. Gatchalian
  4. Atty. Richard Allan A. Lim
  5. Atty. Mary Joanne Manalo
  6. Atty. Theresa D. Ramos
  7. Atty. Aaron Bailey G. Santos
  8. Atty. Rhea-Ann J. Soliman
  9. Atty. Jose Lorenzo C. Tan

The passing rate of the Bulacan State University is 20.45%. The National passing rate is 26.21%.

Buenaventura believes that a person's work ethics is far more essential than the choice of school. He took this principle as an advantage being in a less popular law school.

In an interview with ABS-CBN, he said that the warm and enticing atmosphere of the Claw faculty encouraged him to do better hence not taking pressure from the examination.

"'Yung atmosphere ng Bulacan State University College of Law kasi encouraging. 'Yung mga professors, parang inspiring. Welcoming sila na we're pushing you to excel... Imbes na pagalitan ka directly, pagsasabihan ka lang. 'Yung iba, with motherly concern, fatherly concern," he explained.

"So I think 'yung advantage ko is hindi ako na-pressure in a sense na pinapagalitan ako, na natatakot ako."

The Bulacan State University community congratulates the passers and thank them for giving honor to the University and the BulSU College of Law.
